Pontiac
Founded in 1926 by General Motors, Pontiac began life as the automaker’s performance division. Pontiac enjoyed several popular models over the years. However, the most iconic model throughout the company’s active years was the Firebird and later the Trans Am.
The Pontiac Firebird began its life in 1967 as a variant of the simultaneously released Chevrolet Camaro. GM intended the Firebird to compete with the hot-selling Ford Mustang and their newly released Mercury Cougar.
Introduced in 1969 as a performance package available to the Firebird, the Trans Am became a legend unto itself. Featured in movies such as Smokey and the Bandit and Rocky, the Trans Am became the car synonymous with the Pontiac brand.
