Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce Roars into Geneva Motor Show

First Impressions

We all knew this would eventually happen, this meaning that Lamborghini would unleash a more powerful version of this extremely successful V-12 Supercar.  And the Aventador is already an amazing car to drive and to stare at. Kudos for Lamborghini to choose the 2015 Geneva Motor Show as the venue to reveal its most powerful, V-12 super car to date.

So what features differentiate the Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce from the standard version?

What’s New

First thing that differentiates the Aventador SV from the standard model are the looks. I mean, just look at it!  Isn’t it gorgeous? It almost looks like the Aventador ditched some of its body panels and upgraded itself to some of the panels left over from the hyper-expensive Veneno. We already knew the standard Aventador used carbon fiber for its monocoque construction. However, in the Aventador SV, carbon fiber is also used for the doors, rocker panels and fenders.

This transition from Aluminum to carbon fiber has reduced the overall weight of the Lamborghini Aventador SV by 110 pounds to 3,362 pounds, when compared to the standard Aventador.

The second difference you will notice between the Lamborghini Aventador SV and the standard version is the upgrade in the power department. Unlike the regular Aventador, the naturally aspirated 6.5 V-12 in the SV gets a redesign. An optimized variable valve timing and variable intake system, turn ups the power output to 750 horsepower and provides a 59 hp bump over the standard V-12.

It now redlines at 8,500 rpm.

Even with all these modifications, the torque output remains unchanged at 509 lb.ft., which we are completely okay with. The Lamborghini Aventador SV also receives a new lightweight exhaust system which reduces the back pressure while enhancing the V-12 engine’s exhaust note. All of the power form the upgraded V-12 is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed automated manual transmission and permanent all-wheel-drive system.

More Changes

Another difference between the standard Aventador and the Lamborghini Aventador SV is the suspension and chassis setup. The standard Aventador’s push-rod suspension is now upgraded with magnetorheological dampers, which adjusts to various road conditions via variable driving modes. The Lamborghini Aventador SV also receives a revised electro-mechanical steering system that adjusts the steering ratio based on the speed of the vehicle and the selected driving mode.

The steering system is also tuned for stability during high speeds and maneuverability during low speeds. The Lamborghini Aventador SV rides on 20 inch rims up front and 21 inch rims out back. All four rims are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa high-performance tires.  The standard brake system on the Aventador SV are carbon fiber rotors with carbon ceramic brake pads, which make sure that the Lamborghini Aventador SV comes to a stop as quickly as it accelerates to 60 mph.

With all of these chassis and power train enhancements, the Lamborghini Aventador SV accelerates to 60 mph from 0 in a scant 2.8 seconds and reaches terminal velocity at 217 mph.

In order to keep the new Lambo stable at high speeds, the aerodynamics in the Aventador SV are optimized by 150 percent, while the downforce has been enhanced by 170 percent compared to the standard Aventador. Other major differences between the new Lamborghini Aventador SV and the standard model are the adjustable, carbon fiber wing, front splitter and rear diffuser, which channel air underneath the car to keep it planted to the ground at triple digit speeds.

Creature Comforts

While all of the engine and chassis enhancements are great, the engineers at Lamborghini did not leave the interior alone when transforming the standard Aventador into the Aventador SV. Inside, the carbon fiber monocoque is visible at the transmission tunnel and at the door sills. Carbon fiber components have also been used to design the new sport seats and door inserts in the Aventador SV. To reduce the weight inside the Aventador SV, the engineers deleted the carpets, removed certain noise cancelling components and the infotainment system.

However, if you so want the infotainment system in the Aventador SV, the folks at Lamborghini will add it back at no additional cost.

Inside, the Aventador SV also receives a new instrument cluster with a predominantly yellow TFT screen, a blue shift light and a new g-force indicator.

So, there you have it: these are all the changes that differentiate the Lamborghini Aventador from the standard model. If, you missed out on the Veneno, do not fret because the Aventador SV produces the same amount of horsepower but this car is even lighter and faster. According to Lamborghini, the Aventador SV will be ready for sale in Europe in the spring at a retail price of 327,190 Euros.  At the current exchange rate, that translates to near $366,000 USD, which is more affordable than the million dollar Veneno.
