Subaru
Founded in 1953, Subaru is a Japanese automobile manufacturer known for its use of a boxer engine layout in most vehicles above 1500 cc. Along with the addition of Symmetrical all-wheel drive in 1972, the Boxer layout became standard in mid-sized and smaller cars by 1996. This combination – the Boxer engine and Symmetrical all-wheel drive – is common in most North American Subaru vehicles today.
Subaru has been involved in road rallies for many years, with them achieving the World Rally Championship manufacturers’ title for three consecutive years from 1995 to 1997. Several endurance records were also set in the early and mid-nineties by the Subaru Legacy to solidify their reputation as a performance off-road vehicle.
Current models include the Impreza and Legacy sedans, Crosstrek crossover, Forester, Outback, and Ascent SUVs, and the BRZ and WRX (& WRX STI) sports cars.
