The United States Automobile Association (USAA) provides many financial services to military service members and their family members. These services previously included a USAA extended warranty, which was offered up until 2018.

In this article, we’ll go over everything you need to know about the USAA extended warranty, including previous coverage details and whether USAA may offer vehicle protection plans in the future. Does USAA Offer Extended Auto Warranties?

USAA no longer offers an extended warranty. USAA extended warranty plans were previously administered through Assurant Solutions, a third-party provider that partnered with USAA. The company stopped offering this coverage in 2018.

USAA Services

USAA does, however, offer different insurance, banking, retirement, real estate, and investment products and services, and the company still recognizes previously purchased USAA Extended Vehicle Protection Plans.

What Did the USAA Extended Warranty Cover?

There were two USAA extended warranty plans to choose from: Comprehensive Protection and Manufacturer Wrap Protection.

USAA Comprehensive Protection Plan

The Comprehensive Protection plan acted as a true bumper-to-bumper warranty, covering nearly all mechanical vehicle parts. This plan included coverage for vehicles’ powertrain components such as the engine, transmission, drive axle, and related parts.

USAA Manufacturer Wrap Protection Plan

The Manufacturer Wrap Protection plan was designed for drivers whose factory bumper-to-bumper warranties were shorter than their factory powertrain warranties. The plan included most vehicle components, except for those covered under the factory powertrain warranty. Wrap plans can help drivers avoid having their coverage lapse or paying for redundant coverage. Drivers were able to purchase this USAA extended warranty as long as they were 30 days or 1,000 miles from the expiration of their factory warranty.

Customers who previously purchased a USAA extended warranty and experience mechanical breakdowns can still file claims. Plans are also cancelable. Coverage was originally transferable too, but it’s unclear whether this is still an option.

Additional Benefits

Each USAA extended warranty provided drivers with a few benefits, including:

  • Substitute transportation reimbursement
  • Travel and lodging reimbursement
  • 24-hour roadside assistance

Active service members are eligible for USAA’s deployment deferment options. If a USAA extended warranty owner is deployed at any point during their contract term, USAA can suspend coverage for up to 15 months. Upon return, service members can have their contract extended to reflect the original coverage length.

Future of the USAA Extended Warranty: Conclusion

In 2019, USAA stated it did not have plans to bring back its extended auto warranty program. There are also no alternative USAA extended warranty options in place at this point in time.

If you were planning to buy a vehicle service contract through USAA, you’re not out totally of luck. There are comparable options available through a number of reputable extended car warranty companies.
