While most of us dream about driving high-end sports cars and supercars, few of us “normals” ever get the chance to actually drive one, let alone own one.
Most of us know about supercar rental companies, and maybe some of you have splashed the cash to drive around a Ferrari F430 for a few hours, but with prices even for that hovering in the thousands of dollars (mostly because of insurance I’d imagine,) even that is out of the reasonable price range of many.
Luckily, there are options from the “normal” rent-a-car companies. In the States, Hertz has been offering sports cars to us mere mortals for a while now, and has even come up with a few special edition cars that are only available through them. Clever move on their part. The Hertz Ford Mustang Penske GT is a good example of that, and those offerings go back as far as the ’60s.
Most recently, one sports car has been making huge headlines, and yet again, Hertz rent-a-car seems to be on top of it. Although we aren’t getting this one in the States quite yet, imagine taking this new highly-acclaimed sports car through the French Alps on your next vacation…
Jaguar F-Type
While many of you know I haven’t been a Jaguar fan historically, their recent offerings have been blowing me away.
The F-Type is the latest in Jaguar’s long list of thoroughbred sports cars and is a front-engine, two-seater convertible with powerful rear-wheeled drive and curves like a super-model.
The ergonomically grouped controls were inspired by fighter-plane cockpits and the 8-speed transmission and joystick-shaped Sport-Shift have aeronautical influences. Everything about it smacks of Jaguar’s ethos of exciting those lucky enough to drive them.
The F-Type will be exclusively available to rent from Hertz in Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands, and Italy from the following locations:
• France: Cannes, Nice Airport, Monaco, Nice downtown, Saint-Tropez, Paris Porte-Maillot, Paris Roissy CDG Airport
• Germany: Munich downtown airport and Frankfurt downtown Airport
• Italy: Milan Linate Airport, Rome Fiumicino Airport and Olbia Airport
• Netherlands: Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
• Belgium: Brussels Airport
The addition of the Jaguar F-Type is the beginning of the launch of the Hertz ‘Dream Collection’. This will be a collection of premium, iconic cars that will be backed by Hertz’s ‘Make and Model guarantee’. This guarantee will ensure that all customers will get the car they book.
The Group President of Hertz International, Michel Taride, said: “We are very proud to welcome the Jaguar F-TYPE as the launch car of our new Dream Collection for Europe, a line of high-end vehicles providing a premium car rental experience. Now our customers can live the dream of high performance motoring and pure driving enjoyment.”
As you can imagine though, renting one isn’t cheap (much cheaper than buying one though), and rental costs start from around 250 Euros (about $340) per day. Not cheap, but again…F-Type…Mountains…no salesman sitting next to you…yeah.)
Minimum age restrictions also apply:
• France – 30 years old
• Italy – 27 years old
• Germany – 25 years old
• Belgium – 25 years old
• Netherlands – 25 years old
Customers will also need to produce two credit cards to be able to rent the F-TYPE in any of the above countries.
Hertz has other fun cars to rent in Europe including the Toyota GT86 (Scion FRS), Range Rover Evoque, BMW M5, and Mercedes SLK-Class.
Would you rent a fun car to drive on a holiday for the sake of driving?
